Alex Kiss, Ph.D. (Columbia University)

Dr. Alex Kiss is the founder of KISS Consulting. He holds a Ph.D. from Columbia University in Biostatistics and has over 15 years of experience in statistical consulting in a wide variety of areas from medical to sociological, and finance to law. Dr. Kiss’ past experience includes work: in clinical trial design and analysis for a large multinational corporation based in the US; as a statistical consultant to a division of the National Institutes of Health (NIH); as head of the Department of Research Design and Biostatistics at one of Canada’s largest hospitals. He has been the statistician on several landmark studies such as “A Broken System, Part II”, the first study of its kind looking at factors influencing high reversal rates among capital cases in the US, and a study commissioned by the office of the Attorney General of N.Y. to analyze evidence of racial profiling by the NYPD. Dr. Kiss actively enjoys taking part in study design and statistical analysis for a wide number of research fields and ensuring the integrity and quality of such work. He is the co-author of over 100 publications in a wide variety of journals including The New England Journal of Medicine, The Journal of the American Statistical Association, Cancer, and The Journal of Empirical Legal Studies. Teaching statistics is another area he greatly enjoys. He has taught a variety of statistics and biostatistics courses to university students at 3 different universities and he continues to extend his 11 years of experience by giving statistical lectures at hospitals and a course at the University of Toronto.
Yuxin Tu, Ph.D. (University of Toronto)

Dr. Yuxin Tu holds a Ph.D. in Higher Education from OISE (Ontario Institute for Studies in Education) at the University of Toronto. She has a solid background in both quantitative and mixed methods social sciences research. She has gained extensive research experience through collaboration with senior faculty members at the University of Toronto on several major SSHRC (Social Sciences and Humanities Research Council of Canada)-funded projects over the past five years. Dr. Tu has exceptional skills in managing and analyzing large institutional and national datasets and interpreting statistical findings to build meaningful conclusions. She has published several articles related to her doctoral dissertation in peer-reviewed journals in social sciences, and is the co-recipient of the “Best Paper Award” at the 2010 EAIR (European Higher Education Society) forum in Valencia, Spain. She has been invited as a peer-reviewer for several scientific journals and professional associations in the field of higher education and SSHRC faculty standard research grant applications.
Dr. Tu has taught a graduate-level quantitative research methods course at the University of Toronto and coached several graduate students on quantitative research design and statistical analysis for their thesis and dissertation work, which has led to further publications. Her fresh approach of introducing and explaining complex statistical concepts has received very positive feedback from both her students and clients. She finds her passion in assisting graduate students to fulfill their academic goals.
